James (Jim) Morgan

James (Jim) Morgan
Founding Chairman of the High Point Community Foundation
(1990 - 12/2003)
You can trace the High Point Community Foundation and its great work all the way back to an idea Jim Morgan had in 1990. Because of his shared vision with friend Jim Millis, Sr., a financial resource that would “meet the unmet needs of the community,” was born. After taking care of the legal essentials, Jim got to work inspiring other people as well. After eight years and much planning and collaboration, the Foundation officially opened its doors in 1998.
By the time Jim completed his term as Founding Chairman in 2003 Foundation assets had grown to just under $12 million. High Point has never been the same.
Jim was born and raised here. At High Point Central High School, he was known as both a strong football player and a born leader. Jim went on to Guilford College, earning a BA in History; he later graduated from Stamford Law School in Alabama.
Guilford County was fortunate to be represented by Jim in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1977 to 1982, during which time he was named Legislator of the Year by the North Carolina Nurses Association, the NC Trial Lawyers, the NC Wildlife Federation, and the Good Government Committee.
Jim is the Managing Partner and Attorney at Law in the firm Morgan, Herring, Morgan, Green,
Rosenblutt, Gill, L.L.P. He is well-known for his generosity in providing legal aid to the indigent and his service to nonprofit organizations. Jim has been the Chairman or President of over 60 organizations, including The North Carolina Jaycees; the Metropolitan Chambers of Commerce; the High Point and Guilford County Bar Association; the NC Council of Bar Presidents; the United Way of North Carolina; the High Point Chamber of Commerce; the High Point Economic Development Corporation; and the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau. Jim has served organizations that include Guilford Technical Community College, Hospice of the Piedmont, Alcohol and Drug Services and The Triad Chamber of Commerce.
With a record of this magnitude, it’s no wonder Jim has been recognized as the High Point Enterprise "Citizen of the Year," the High Point Chamber of Commerce's "Distinguished Citizen," and the "Humanitarian of the Year" by the High Point Human Relations Commission, among many other honors. Jim has twice been awarded the "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine" by North Carolina Governors.
Jim is married to Ann Tinsley Morgan and they have two children, Jef Morgan and Lea Morgan Pflaging, and five grandchildren.
