The J. Howard Coble Scholarship was established in 2016 by Congressman Coble’s nephew Dr. Ray Coble and his wife Chris Coble who created a fund at the High Point Community Foundation to honor Congressman J. Howard Coble.
We’re pleased to announce that Luke Hinshaw of Southeast Guilford High School is the 2018 recipient of the J. Howard Coble Scholarship!
The scholarship is intended to provide financial support for deserving students who demonstrate the ideals and leadership qualities of Congressman Coble.
In order to perpetuate Congressman Coble’s legacy, students residing in the following counties in North Carolina will be eligible for this scholarship: Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Durham, Granville, Guilford, Moore, Orange, Person, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stokes, and Surry.

The scholarship will support incoming freshmen as a first priority and will be awarded to one or more students who demonstrate the ideals and leadership qualities of Congressman Coble, including high moral character and good citizenship. Priority will be given to children of U.S. military personnel or U.S. military veterans, members of scouting programs, and members of ROTC programs.
ABOUT CONGRESSMAN HOWARD COBLE
Howard Coble (March 18, 1931-November 3, 2015) represented North Carolina’s 6th District from January 3, 1985 until January 3, 2015, making him the longest serving Republican congressman in North Carolina history. Prior to his terms in the US House, Coble served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1979 until 1985.
In addition to his distinguished career as a leader and legislator, he earned a reputation as being a dedicated public servant to his constituents. Folks back home knew they could count on Howard.
The J. Howard Coble Scholarship is an especially fitting tribute to its namesake, a statesman committed to making his home state a leader in education.
