2nd Chairman of the High Point Community Foundation

Dr. Nido Qubein served as the second Chairman of the High Point Community Foundation and he is a member of the original Community Foundation Executive Board. When the time came to consider a successor for our Founding Chairman, Jim Morgan, the only natural choice was a man who has had extensive leadership experience, who exuded passion and energy, and who also had a bold vision for what the Foundation could be for the people of High Point. Dr. Nido Qubein stepped in and immediately impacted the Foundation with his unique entrepreneurial style and his inspirational vision. During his tenure Nido attracted and nurtured several new multi-million dollar contributions that were no doubt influenced by his example of establishing one of the Foundations first $1,000,000.00 Donor Advised Funds. Over $28,000,000.00 new philanthropic dollars were added to the Foundations endowment during Nidos two years in office.

Nido, who is internationally recognized for his professional speaking and writing that have garnered the highest awards in his profession including; The Cavett (The Oscar of Professional Speaking). The Sales and Marketing Internationals Ambassador of Free Enterprise, the Speakers Hall of Fame, and The Toastmasters International "Top Business and Commerce Speaker" recognition as well as their prestigious Golden Gavel Award. In addition to this Nido has also received The Ellis Island Medal of Honor, a Doctorate of Laws, and induction into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society for Business Leaders.

In the business world Nido serves on The Board of Directors of BB&T Corporation, a Fortune 500 Company with assets exceeding $95 billion. He is also Chairman of The Great Harvest Bread Company, (With 210 stores in 39 states), Chairman of Business Life, Inc., McNeill Lehman, Inc., Creative Services, Inc., and The Miss NC/USA Program, which he moved from Charlotte to High Point to help economic development in our city. Nido also serves on a dozen boards including the national YMCA, America Humanics, and the High Point Regional Hospital Endowment, and is the Founder of the National Speakers Association Foundation in Phoenix, AZ. One of Nido's greatest personal passions is The Nido Qubein & Associates Foundation; a scholarship program established years ago that has enabled hundreds of local young people to attend college (over $3,000,000 awarded to 600 Students to-date).

Nido has been the recipient of numerous awards including; the Toast Masters Golden Gavel Award, the Ellis Island Medal of Freedom, Membership in the International Speakers Hall of Fame, a Doctorate of Laws, North Carolinas highest recognition - The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and the High Point Enterprise Citizen of the Year Award.

Nido is one of a very small and distinguished group of Foundation leaders who have been awarded the Community Foundations "Philanthropist of the Year" Award for his tremendous record of service, leadership, and stewardship to our Community Foundation, the community of High Point and literally the world.

Nido is married to Mariana and they have four children, Ramsey, Deana, Christiana and Michael. His present work as the President of the High Point University has produced a totally redesigned campus, over $100,000,000.00 in new support monies raised, and a newfound reputation as one of the most progressive and student centered learning institutions in the country.
