HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Uniting communities, exciting possibilities, and igniting inspiration — that’s the mission of the High Point Arts Council. For nearly 65 years, it’s worked to enrich lives through the arts.

“What I love about the arts is that they attract everybody from all walks of life,” said Catena Bergevin, Executive Director of the High Point Arts Council. “Our audience is literally everyone — kids, adults, a reflection of our entire community, all of the neighborhoods. Most of our programming is free or very low cost. So, we just want to make sure that people have the arts accessible to them and that we can help provide some really great, shared experiences.”

Bergevin says those shared experiences include an art gallery inside the High Point Arts Council’s home at Centennial Station. As the executive director, it’s her job to share the passion of art in its different forms with the community.

“We also do performances here,” she said. “We rent the space. We also do community events such as a day in the park at High Point City Lake Park. We do Summer Sounds, which are free community concerts that are around different venues and parks in the area, and we have actually a new program which is called Rooted, and it’s an artist-in-residence program placing artists in communities.”
