The High Point Central High School Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 by Dr. Richard Carmichael, Tom Kester, and Ellis Baker to represent the High Point High School Class of 1960. The Class of 1960 is passionate about creating a permanent resource for deserving students of High Point Central High School who have the ability to pursue higher education, but not the funds. Their hope is to inspire and encourage more former classmates and alumni to contribute and participate in this goal.
“For a number of years prior to the 50th reunion of the High Point Central High School (HPC) Class of 1960 in 2010, the class desired to make a gesture of appreciation, honor, and support to HPC and a gesture to honor and in memory of our teachers and principal, Mr. Whitley. The class wanted the gesture to be lasting. We decided that the best way to honor and support HPC in a lasting way was to establish a scholarship for graduating HPC students to use as aid in furthering their education. The class established the scholarship with the aid of the High Point Community Foundation in 2010. The Class of 1960 is appreciative of the HPC counseling office and the High Point Community Foundation for their good work in structuring the application form and in carrying through the process to name the scholarship recipients.”
