Our donors make us who we are. At a recent event thanking our donors for their investment of trust and finances, donors and leadership had the opportunity to hear from a donor  about the impact of a donor advised fund on his family.

Matt and Emily Thiel are donors who have made the process of selecting worthwhile organizations and nonprofits a family affair. Their children play a role in the decision-making, and they have all benefited from consultations with the foundation, and enjoyed an ongoing relationship. Matt talked about how meaningful the process has been, and shared the way it’s changed his family’s approach to giving.

Donor Advised Funds, or DAFs,  allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit, and then recommend grants from the fund over time. An easy way to think about a donor-advised fund is like a charitable savings account: a donor contributes to the fund as frequently as they like and then recommends grants to their favorite charity when they are ready. Guidelines to the process are available at the foundation or on our website.
